Dr. Song Li is a Professor in Bioengineering. His research is focused on cell and tissue engineering. He got his PhD at UCSD, and was a faculty at UC Berkeley between 2001-2015.

I am a senior bioengineering student that will be moving into a full-time role as a Program Manager at Microsoft. During my time at UCLA, I have participated in cardiovascular stem cell research, tissue engineering/ translational medicine research, hospital clinical research, Engineering 96 class instruction, and the Biomedical Engineering Society.

Natalie Maxwell, Internal Vice President, UCLA Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES)
I am a 4th year bioengineering major and the Internal Vice President of BMES for the 2019-2020 school year. During my time at UCLA, I was an undergraduate researcher in a tissue engineering lab for two years and focused my efforts on studying biomaterial implants and cardiac tissue regeneration. After I graduate, I would like to utilize my computer science tech breadth and background in bioengineering by pursuing a career in UI/UX design for biotech companies.

Smiti Narayanan, Technical Projects Vice President, UCLA Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES)
Hi, my name is Smiti and I am a fourth year majoring in bioengineering and minoring in bioinformatics. As the Technical Projects VP for BMES, I lead our three project teams and host technical workshops. Outside of BMES, I work in a research lab focused on spinal cord stimulation.

I am a fourth year bioengineering major. During my time at UCLA, I’ve been very involved in the Biomedical Engineering Society, participated in tissue engineering research, worked as a campus your guide, and held an internship in consulting. This month, I will begin grad school at the Johns Hopkins Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design.

Carissa Eisler, Ph.D., Assistant Professor
I am an Assistant Professor in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at my alma mater of UCLA (Go Bruins!). My research interests lie at the intersection of chemistry and photonics: integrating optical design, materials chemistry, and transport phenomena to understand the complex propagation of light and energy through nanostructured materials. I am also really passionate about educating and mentoring the next generation of chemical engineers who will address our world’s interdisciplinary challenges.

Hi I’m Ksenia! I’m a Junior ChemE and have just transferred from El Camino College. It’s my third quarter here and there’s a lot to adjust to but you can do it! Hopefully I will share some useful advice so don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Richa Ghosh, UCLA American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE)
Hi my name is Richa and I’m a 4th year Chemical Engineering major from Irvine, CA! On campus I have been involved with AIChE at UCLA, WE@UCLA, instructing two E96A courses, and MentorSEAS. I have been President and Mentorship chair of AIChE at UCLA in addition to being involved with two of the club’s projects: Chem-E-Car and ChIP. I have also done undergraduate research in two chemical engineering laboratories for the past 4 years and have had internships at NASA JPL and Marathon Petroleum Corporation. Outside of engineering, I am a member of UCLA’s Taekwondo club and enjoy kayaking in Marina del Rey and bullet journaling. After graduation I will be pursing a PhD in Chemical Engineering.

Florina Patron Herrera, Engineering transfer from Glendale Community College
I am from Bogota, Colombia, and I moved to the United States five years ago. I went to Glendale Community College for three years, and then transferred to UCLA. Currently, I am a second year transfer, about to go into my last year. I am also a commuter, but that hasn’t stopped me from being able to get an on campus job, participate in undergraduate research, and make great friends. Being the first one in my family to attend college in the United States, I had to learn a lot of things by myself, and make many mistakes in the way. I really hope I can provide the new transfers with some insight from my experience.

Since coming to UCLA, I participated in the 3 week transfer bridge program, went to the career fair, participated in ASME events, went to the Bruinspace high altitude weather balloon launch, went to SWE events, worked on in-class and personal projects in the Makerspace, got an exclusive tour of the James Webb Space Telescope through the WE@UCLA Aerospace Academy, graduated from the Aerospace Academy, and got a scholarship through the school of engineering all while somehow maintaining a decent GPA. I hope that by sharing my experiences, attendees will learn about some of the opportunities they will have as an engineering transfer student when they come here.
