Spring Quarter Programs

RISE Mental Health Leadership Training

Wednesdays, Weeks 3-8, 4-5:30pm

In this training series, students will learn strategies to foster and support student resilience and well-being on campus. The training will cover various topics to support students in their own self-care practices, as well as broadening their education as wellness leaders on campus in their own communities. Food will be provided. Students who complete all 6 sessions will receive a RISE Mental Health Certificate.

Re-Charge Hours

Wednesdays, Weeks 3-10, 11am-2pm

Re-Charge hours are open hours at RISE which offer space for students to engage in self-care. Self-directed activities will be provided, as well as space for reflection and community conversation, if desired. Space will be available to nap, relax, color, meditate, watch a movie and more.

Mindfulness Brown Bag Lunch Series

A series of informal, experiential lunchtime sessions on mindfulness-related topics, hosted by UCLA’S Mindful Ambassadors and Mindfulness for Staff & Faculty Practice Group. Students, faculty and staff are all welcome. Feel free to bring your lunch!

Mindfulness for Staff & Faculty Practice Group

The Mindfulness for Faculty & Staff Practice Group is open to faculty and staff who are interested in bringing mindfulness into their pedagogical practices, classrooms and other engagements with students in order to deepen learning, build community, enhance wellbeing, encourage new forms of inquiry, foster capacities needed to meet local and global challenges, and support commitment to social justice.  In our group meetings, we practice mindfulness and other mind-body modalities,  discuss relevant literature and research, and share our experiences and approaches to bringing mindfulness into our lives and to our students. UCLA faculty, teaching assistants, staff, and Mindful Awareness Research Center (MARC) affiliates all are welcome to join us.

This group is led by Allyson Pimentel, EdD, Director of Mindfulness Programs at the Resilience in Student Experience (RISE) Center.  If you would like to receive notices of upcoming meetings, please fill out the interest form here.

CARE Programs at RISE

  • WE ARE FURIOUS!

Mondays April 8th-29th, 12:00-1:30pm

The CARE Program presents a four-part series of facilitated discussions rooted in feminist and critical race theory. This series is more than defining what anger is, as we move toward embracing the anger and channeling it into social change. Your anger is valid AND we want to explore the role of anger in activism, advocacy, healing, and justice.
Note: This workshop is a series, comprised of 4 parts. Though the sessions can be attended separately, we recommend attending the series as a whole. Lunch will be served! Please RSVP.

  • A WRITE TO HEAL

Thursdays, April 18th-May 23, 5:00-6:30pm

Facilitated by Confidential Advocate Joyce Guinto, MSW, ASW. This is a journaling workshop for survivors of sexual, relationship, or gender-based violence. It is not necessary to RSVP, but if you would like additional information, please fill out this form.

  • TRAUMA-INFORMED YOGA

Mondays, April 22nd-May 20th, 10:00am-12:00pm

For graduate students only. Yoga as Healing offers survivors a safe space to gain greater awareness around strength, stability, assertiveness, and mindfulness. Classes will have different themes, focus on various restorative postures, support the nervous system, explore positive affirmations, and will also be coupled with guided activities including de-briefing exercises, journaling, and art. Please RSVP.
