Engineering Research Center Intern
(20-25 hours per week, Mon – Fri)

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under supervision, this position will support pilot-scale treatment system testing at the District’s Engineering
Research Center (ERC) and support other related R&D activities throughout the treatment facility. Core
responsibilities consist of upkeep of the ERC, including maintenance, tracking chemical supplies, ultrapure
water system, pilot system logs, water sample collection, data processing, etc. As the incumbent gains
experience, duties will be expanded to include supporting pilot system operations, including microfiltration,
ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis systems commissioning, maintenance, collection of process data, etc.
Additional duties will include maintaining and reviewing process performance data through applying basic
scientific and engineering calculations and principals; conducting basic water quality analyses in the ERC lab
facility; and assisting with the preparation and presentation of technical reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidate must have basic knowledge of scientific and engineering principles via a minimum of two years of
undergraduate study in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or equivalent; the
ability to apply a reasonable level of technical and mechanical aptitude; perform duties in a timely manner with
minimal supervision once trained; excellent written, verbal and organizational skills; working knowledge of
basic computing, spreadsheets, word processing and presentation via Microsoft Office platform. Experience
with statistical methods and the principles of water/wastewater treatment is a plus. The incumbent must be
flexible to work in multiple settings, including office, laboratory and outdoor areas such as the ERC and the
surrounding treatment facility.
Internships are to provide meaningful training and work experience for college students pursuing
academic studies related to the District’s mission and goals. Interns must submit proof of full-time
enrollment, class schedules and grades each semester/quarter. Interns are not eligible for employee
benefits. Interns are “at will” and can be terminated at the discretion of the Department Manager with or
without cause and with or without prior notice.
#1 – Interns must be currently enrolled full time (Fall/Spring) in an accredited bachelor or graduate
program related to this field.
#2 – Interns must have at least one year or more remaining in school.

Hourly Rate: $15.00 per hour (undergraduate student)
$17.00 per hour (graduate student)
