1) What is T-RAP?
The Trauma Research Associates Program (T-RAP) at Cedars Sinai Medical Center focuses on facilitating clinical research in Trauma/Critical Care under the Department of Surgery.  T-RAP involves a unique blend of first-hand clinical exposure and scientific research, which will serve as a valuable experience when applying to medical (allopathic or osteopathic), dental, pharmacy, physician assistant or public health programs around the country. Research associates become well-versed in the workings of trauma surgery and critical care as well as patient communication and education. Students are expected to be involved with multiple clinical research projects with a very high likelihood of  placed in abstracts and papers.  Students may also choose to attend Grand Surgery Rounds, Morbidity and Mortality conferences, Acute Care Surgery meetings, Trauma research meetings, and partake in activities at Cedars Sinai Medical Center’s Simulation Lab.

Please note that if selected, you will be required to attend mandatory Friday weekly meetings (every other week during the summer) at 1pm-2pm. So please apply only if this would be possible. Our program mentor is Dr. Eric Ley, a current trauma/critical care physician in the Department of Surgery at Cedars-Sinai, and the director of the Critical Care fellowship program.

2) Who can apply?
We will be offering this program as a Surgery 99 (SRP) or Surgery 199 course. You must be a UCLA undergraduate student and have a GPA>3.0 to be considered. We are expanding this program to keep up with the additional demand on clinical research and are looking for several students, so please do not hesitate to apply! We are looking for members who are dedicated, willing to go above and beyond, and work well in a team, so don’t let the lack of research experience/extracurricular be a reason to not apply!

3) How do I apply for T-RAP?
You must meet the requirements (GPA>3.0 and a minimum 1 year commitment). You will be expected to dedicate about 10 hours per week to the program.  If you would like to be considered for this upcoming recruitment cycle, please complete and send in your application by 11:59pm on Friday, May 3rd. Please also email a copy of your CV/Resume to cslatrapapplications@gmail.com and title the attachment “First name_Last name.”
