During the COVID-19 lockdown, the Undergraduate Internship Program is making an effort to provide as many services as possible online. Updates and services will be uploaded on this page and sent in our weekly email.

Important Updates

  • This quarter’s Career Fair Preparation Workshops have been cancelled due to the postponement of the Spring HIRE UCLA Fair.
  • All other workshops will be hosted virtually.
  • The course ENGR 23: Finding An Industry Internship is being held virtually and enrollment is open.
  • Updates will be sent in our weekly Undergraduate Internship Program email.

The purpose of the Undergraduate Research Program is to support undergraduate students currently conducting research in communicating and publishing their work. 

About

The Undergraduate Research Program is a new initiative from the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science to develop first-in-class research opportunities that lead to undergraduates who are well-informed about engineering career opportunities in both academic and corporate settings.

UCLA Engineering boasts some of the world’s top researchers working at the forefront of technological innovation. In collaboration with multiple UCLA schools as well as universities around the globe, the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science is leading initiatives that have the potential to change our world.

URP has two programs – the academic year program and the summer program. 

Program Components

URP spans the academic year and consists of several workshops and activities.

  • Technical Presentation Lab
  • Poster Workshops
  • Undergraduate Research Week Poster Day
  • Professional Development Workshops and Industry Info-Sessions
  • End of Year Awards Reception

Program Benefits

  • Master various skills, including deciphering technical journal articles and communicating research findings.
  • Advising on securing paid research or industry positions.
  • Network with industry representatives in an intimate setting.
  • Be recognized for you research and receive an official certificate signed by the Dean.
  • Qualify for $750 award for Best Poster and/or Best Presentation.

We're Hiring!

We’re hiring peer advisors!

Help your fellow Bruin engineers with their research and internship hunt!

Position Requirements:

  • Must have completed either an industry internship OR research
  • Must be familiar with UCLA Engineering resources, services, and departments
  • Must have a desire to share experience and resources with other undergraduate students
  • Must have a strong work ethic and be able to work independently
  • Must be able to commit at least 8-12 hours/week

Preferred Experience:

  • Completed both an industry internship and published research
  • Passed ENGR 23, 24, or 25
  • Experience with event planning
  • Knowledge of Canva, HTML, Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop, and iMovie
  • Ability to use DSLR
  • Experience with Excel pivot tables

Hours/Salary:

  • 8-12 hours/week (Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM)
  • $15.25/hr

If you are interested in publishing your research in the 2020 URP Research Journal, please click the above link for further instructions!

The URP Research Journal serves as the first on-campus publication experience before you move on to other research publications, such as conference papers and professional peer-review journals. This is not a peer-review journal, and everyone within the School of Engineering is welcome to submit their research work as a first step towards higher-level research.
