The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) is seeking to fill two (2) Administrative Intern II positions in
Fire Development Services, Plan Check Section.
This is a great opportunity for talented and highly motivated individuals, who graduated in an
engineering discipline to gain experience in a professional work environment. Interns will
gain practical knowledge and experience in fire and life safety regulations as they relate to
safeguarding life and property against loss from fire, explosions and related hazards.
Incumbents will have the opportunity to work with both Fire and building officials involved in
the planning, plan review, and inspection phases of the major development projects in the
City.

Eligibility Requirements:
Graduation from a recognized four-year college or university with an Engineering degree. All
transcripts/degrees will be reviewed for content and curriculum emphasis.
Preferred Skills/Knowledge:
Knowledge of mathematics sufficient to perform related engineering calculations, the ability and
desire to read building plans, legal land maps, and parcels. Candidates must possess good
communication skills and excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.

Duties:
Assist Fire Protection Engineering Associates and plan check personnel in entering data, assist
customers with questions, and other duties as directed. Will answer phones and emails as directed,
scan Fire permit plans and other documents, and file documents electronically. This is a training
position, so interns will be trained in applicable codes including the City of Los Angeles Fire Code,
Los Angeles Building Code, National Fire Protection Association standards and other related matters.

Compensation & Benefits:
The rate of pay is $25.60 per hour. Please note that this position is not a permanent Civil Service
position with the City of Los Angeles. Therefore, the position is not eligible for any employee benefits.

Work Schedule:
Flexible working hours are available from Monday to Friday. The maximum allowable working hours
in any service year is 1,039 hours.
