National Scholarships

(Rhodes, NSF, Goldwater, etc.)

Top HSSEAS students are encouraged to apply for the following National and international Scholarships. These prestigious science and engineering scholarships allow students the opportunity to distinguish themselves both at the university and the national level, and can assist in establishing a successful future career.

Although many of these awards are designed for upper-division students, freshmen and sophomores interested in pursuing them can benefit greatly by learning now about the criteria and time-lines for these awards. Early understanding of the criteria can help you select activities that can greatly strengthen your application.

Below is a list of national scholarships. To apply for scholarships marked that require Nomination by UCLA, please visit the Honors Program Website (click on Scholarships/Opportunities): http://www.honors.ucla.edu/scholarships/national-scholarships/

Some of the applications requiring UCLA nomination have campus deadlines as early as late September during the year in which applicants must apply. Therefore, if interested in applying for one of these scholarships, students
must contact the Honors Programs well in advance – significant time is necessary for assisting with applications prior to the nomination deadlines!

Please note that for planning purposes, deadlines are very similar and around the same time from year to year.  Be sure to check the individual scholarship source websites regularly.
