Answer to Questions
Computer Science
The Science
and Technology Elective is a requirement for
Computer Science majors. The "Sci-Tech Elective" is satisfied as
follows depending on
your catalog year:
Students following the 2006 catalog and thereafter
Students in catalog 2006 and thereafter are required three upper
division
Science and Technology courses (12 units), not used to satisfy other
requirements. Effective W10, Science & Technology electives
must be satisfied per the options listed on the following list:
Science & Technology Electives
Pay special attention
to the subset restrictions. If you have questions regarding
the restrictions, email your academic
counselor.
*EFFECTIVE WINTER 2010
CS students who have chosen to complete
their Technical Breadth Area in Engineering Mathematics and would
like to complete their Sci-Tech requirements with additional upper
division Mathematics courses must submit a petition for approval in
advance of taking courses.
*EFFECTIVE FALL 2009
CS students will no longer be allowed to
do the Sci-Tech in additional management/technology management
courses if a student has also chosen the TBA in Technology
Management.
The department feels additional units in the technology management
area would not enhance
your core engineering curriculum.
Please note: If you file a petition to include a course as part of
your Sci-Tech elective please
include the course descriptions in the petition for reference.
We advise you attach a copy
of the course syllabus.
Students following the 2005 catalog
Students in catalog 2005 are required a CS technical
minor or
support area (12 units). You must take three upper division courses selected
from an approved department (please review your catalog year for the list of
departments:
http://www.seasoasa.ucla.edu/hsseas_announcement.html).
Students following the 2004
catalog and prior
Students in catalog 2004 and prior are required a CS technical
minor or
support area (12 units). You must take three upper division courses selected
from an approved department (please review your catalog year for the list of departments:
http://www.seasoasa.ucla.edu/hsseas_announcement.html).
Please note you can not "double count" your COM SCI
technical minor electives
with
the GE coherent group. For example: If you take ECON 101 to
satisfy
your technical minor in "Economics" you can not use ECON 101 to
satisfy the
GE coherent group in "Economics". To review GE requirements for 2004 catalog
and prior
please visit:

**************************************************************
Please note there is no mixing and matching within the
approved areas/departments. Students who wish to do so may
file a petition for consideration at 6426 BH, however filing a
petition does not guarantee approval.
