Student Commencement Speaker

One student will be selected to represent all degree recipients at the
2010 HSSEAS Commencement Ceremony

If you are interested in being the Student Speaker please read the eligibility requirements below:

  • If a *HSSEAS Undergraduate Student:
    Be in good academic standing and a candidate for the B.S. DEGREE to be awarded in June 2010 or have been awarded a B.S. DEGREE in September 2009, December 2009 or March 2010.

  • If a *HSSEAS Graduate Student:
    Be in good academic standing and a candidate for a GRADUATE DEGREE (M.S., Engr., Ph.D.) earned or projected between July 2009 and June 2010.

    *summer 2010 or Fall 2010 degree candidates, who per Special Request approval, are given permission to take part in the 2010 Ceremony are eligible to apply to be Student Speaker

  • Have a record of University, Community, or Student Services

  • Prepare an acceptable speech 3 to 5 minutes in length on a theme related to "Commencement/Graduation"

    (finalists will be required to give an oral presentation of their speech. Selection will be made by the Student Speaker Selection Committee)

  • Submit to Leah Eberhardt,
    6426 Boelter Hall, the following three items:


    • A letter of introduction:

      The letter of introduction (written by applicant) should be addressed to the Student Speaker Selection Committee, which should contain a brief essay about the applicant (include major, degree to be awarded, plans after degree completion, etc)

    • Attach a Resume

            must include an address, local telephone number,
            and e-mail address where you can be contacted.

    • Attach a draft of your speech
